Lucky Cats Unveils New “Catmobile”
Lake Norman Lucky Cats has added a new transport van, called the “Catmobile,” to expand its community cat programs. The vehicle was donated by Robin and Jack Salzman through their non-profit, Giving with Grace Foundation.
The “Catmobile” will increase the group’s ability to reach community cats for spay-and-neuter events. “The previous limitations of our transport capacity were a constant hurdle, but those days are behind us,” said Robin Byrd, executive director of Lucky Cats. Volunteers can now safely and efficiently support spay-a-thons, helping up to 50 cats per day.
Lucky Cats uses a combination of low-cost spay/neuter for pets and trap-neuter-return (TNR) for community cats. Volunteers identify unaltered cats in target areas; community cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and returned. Friendly kittens and adoptable cats are placed through rescue partners.
Founded more than 25 years ago by Abigail Jennings, Lucky Cats works to improve the lives of community cats and reduce shelter euthanasia rates. In 2025, the group facilitated more than 1,000 spay-and-neuter procedures. Jennings said the new vehicle “is more than just a vehicle; it is a catalyst that will allow us to surpass our current impact and help many more community cats become Lucky Cats.”
