Officers at the scene of the gunshot incident on Meridian Street

A suspect is in custody following a shooting in Cornelius on Saturday afternoon.
Police responded to a 911 call around 2 p.m. reporting a gunshot victim at 19222 Meridian St.
The suspect was taken into custody as officers responded to the call, according to Cornelius Police Department Deputy Chief Jennifer Thompson. She said the suspect and victim knew each other and described the incident as an isolated shooting with no threat to the public.
Officers were still at the scene Saturday evening.
The names of the suspect and victim were not immediately available. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. His condition has not yet been released.
