Suspect Charged in Meridian Street Shooting Death

A suspect has been charged following a shooting death in Cornelius on Saturday afternoon.
Police responded to a 911 call around 2 p.m. reporting a gunshot victim at 19222 Meridian St. The victim, Johnny Johnson, 32, was transported to a local hospital, where he died a short time later as a result of his injuries.

The suspect was taken into custody near the scene as officers responded to the call, according to the Cornelius Police Department, which stated the suspect and victim knew each other and described the incident as an isolated shooting with no threat to the public.
Johnquise Emmanuel Patterson, 21, was charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, ten counts of shooting into an unoccupied dwelling, and possession of a stolen firearm. Online county records state he was arrested twice previously on weapons and drug charges.
Patterson is being held without bond.
Queen City News, citing court records, reported the house was occupied by 11 people, including Johnson, at the time of the shooting. Seven of the occupants were juveniles.
