Sefton Road project in the slow lane

Proposed Sefton Park development outlined in red

March 21. By Tripp Liles. Last September the Cornelius Town Board approved a mixed-use project on Sefton Park that will include multifamily units, commercial space and a hotel and conference center. The project is being developed by Shaw Resources, based in Greenville, SC. The ambitious project calls for 344 multifamily units, 7,800 square feet of commercial space and a 113-room hotel with 47,600 square feet of meeting, office and restaurant space on 10 acres of property that has been vacant for years.

According to sources close to the project and in the construction industry there will likely be no movement on the project until the fourth quarter of 2022. Logistics issues in construction materials are not improving.

Industry insiders say a late 2022 start is optimistic. A “more realistic” timeframe would have a start date as late as the second quarter of 2023.
