New cases of coronavirus trend down, based on a week vs. a month of data

Feb. 9. Based on Johns Hopkins’ COVID-19 data, the increase in the median number of new COVID-19 cases continues to fall. The median daily volume of new cases over the past seven days (4,674) is down 23.3 percent from the past 31 (6,096), computed through Feb. 8.

There were 2,786 new cases of the coronavirus statewide in today’s NC Dept. of Health & Human Services report. One week ago there were 2,926 new cases; one month ago there were 11,581 new cases reported by the NDHHS.

More than 10,000 total deaths in NC

There were 55 new deaths due to COVID-19 statewide, for a total of 10,046 since the outbreak began, according to NCDHHS.

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose slightly to 2,374, from 2,339 yesterday

Testing

The statewide positive test rate is at 9.3 percent, while the positive test rate in Mecklenburg was 10 percent in today’s report.

Vaccinations

NCDHHS reports 970,162 first doses have been administered, and 280,422 second doses.

About 300 Walgreen’s stores across the state will begin vaccinations this Friday. Stores have a small amount, according to NCEDHHS Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen.

Mecklenburg

There were 295 new cases of COVID-19 county-wide from yesterday’s report to today’s, for a total of 90,768 since March of last year.

There have been 795 total cumulative deaths county-wide due to COVID-19, up one from yesterday.

North Mecklenburg

Cornelius: 8 new cases; 2,312 cumulative; 21 deaths total.

Davidson: 3 new cases; 1,294 cumulative; 14 deaths total.

Huntersville: 18 new cases; 4,777 cumulative; 46 deaths total.
