Traffic Closure on Knox; Swim Advisory Lifted

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has completed traffic signal work at One Norman Boulevard and West Catawba Avenue and has closed a section of Knox Road for additional construction that is estimated to last four months.

As the next phase of the project begins, drivers approaching the intersection from the south side of West Catawba Avenue will no longer be able to cross West Catawba Avenue onto One Norman Boulevard. Drivers must turn right or left onto West Catawba Avenue.

The Knox Road closure shown on the map will remain in place for approximately 40 days while crews complete storm drainage, paving, sewer bypass work and other improvements.

Once completed, future closures will progress north in two additional stages. NCDOT estimates 120 days until Knox Road is fully reopened.

The closures will remain in place 24 hours a day, including when crews are not actively working. NCDOT will provide additional updates as the project progresses.

The project is designed to improve traffic flow and safety by realigning Knox Road at One Norman Boulevard and rehabilitating Knox Road.

Swim advisory lifted

The no-swim advisory issued Sept. 4 for a cove on Lake Norman near Harborside Drive has been lifted after water sampling results showed bacteria levels within the normal range.
