Home Depot seeks permission to expand

Home Depot in Cornelius

Dec. 8. By Dave Vieser. The Home Depot on Hwy. 21/Statesville Road is seeking permission from the town to expand its tool rental operation. A variance, however, will be required, for which a public hearing will take place on Monday Dec 12.

Home Depot is looking to expand their tool rental area by building out from the east side of the building.

Background

The expansion of tool rental departments is happening more frequently across the country, according to Home Depot’s Dasia Rambert.

“Each year as many as 50 of our stores across the country enlarge their tool rental spaces as a reflection of the services needed by both do-it-yourself home builders as well as contractors” she said.

Meeting next week

The variance hearing will be conducted during the Planning Board’s Dec. 12 meeting which will be held at Town Hall on Catawba Avenue beginning at 6:30 pm.

“There is a required 25-foot setback and they are requesting a 22.5 foot encroachment into that setback,” said Aaron Tucker, senior planner for the town. It will go before the Board of Adjustment/Planning Board Dec. 12.

There are almost 2,000 Home Depot stores in the US.
