Fire Dept. confirms drowning; recovery under-way

July 16. [Updated] Police, fire and NC Wildlife personnel are on the scene of a drowning in the waters off Bustle and Shearwater near The Sandbar. The recovery operation was underway nearing sunset, a fire official confirmed. The Charlotte Fire Dive Team is on the scene in addition to the Cornelius Lemley Fire Dept. and the Cornelius Police Dept. Boaters are asked to stay away from the area where a half dozen police and fire boats are searching.

Update Monday morning: NC Wildlife has not released the identity of the victim.

The search seems to be centered on the southeastern end of The Sandbar
