Election Day: Polls are open until 7:30 pm

Candidates and their supporters at 6:30 am near Waterfront Hall in Jetton Park

Nov. 7. It’s a perfect day for voting, with sunny skies and temps headed to the upper 70s. At 6:30 am, when polls opened, there were more candidates than voters at Precinct 242/Waterfront Hall in Jetton Park.

There are four polling places in Cornelius Election Day:

—Community in Christ Lutheran Church, 7621 Norman Island Drive

—Jetton Park, 19000 Jetton Road

—Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19920 Bethel Church Road

—Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave.

In Cornelius, voters are choosing among two candidates for mayor and 10 candidates for five seats on the Town Board as well as voting on the possibility of changing term lengths from two to four. Elections for Mecklenburg County include a multi-billion-dollar bond referendum for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
