Davidson Housing Coalition gets $300K grant from county

Aug. 23. The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners has agreed to a $300,000 grant for rent subsidies at the Hoke Townhome development in Davidson. The Davidson Housing Coalition will purchase eight townhomes for permanently affordable rentals.

They will be distributed throughout the development and managed by DHC. Alliance Group is building 81 townhouses on the 5.5-acre former Hoke Lumber site bordered by Jetton and Hamilton streets, Catawba Avenue and a self-storage facility.

The County funds will be used to pay the difference between what the renter can afford and the going rental rate.

DHS was created to support housing for people whose household income was below the 80 percent average threshold of the community.

DHS Executive Director Gerald Wright, said: “The County Commissioners’ approval is great not only for the Hoke Development and DHC, but is also a major step forward for affordable housing in our region.”
