COVID Update: 2 new deaths in Cornelius, Davidson

Sept. 29. As many parents wait for the Pfizer vaccine to become available to children—not until November according to the Associated Press—the NC Dept. of Health & Human Services is reporting two new COVID-19 deaths in North Mecklenburg—one in Cornelius and one in Davidson.

The pandemic death toll in Cornelius is 29; in Davidson, 17.

New cases

The volume of new cases climbed to 4,789 today, still lower than the average daily increase last week of 5,136 statewide.

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations statewide fell to 3,010 from 3,073 yesterday, according to the NCDHHS.

Testing

Tests are coming back positive at the rate of 9.7 percent statewide.

Deaths

The NCDHHS said there were 159 new deaths statewide for a total of 16,444 since the pandemic began last year.

Mecklenburg

In Mecklenburg County, there were 443 new cases and eight new deaths, including the two in Cornelius and Davidson.

North Mecklenburg (change from Tuesday)

Cornelius: 16 new cases, 3,844 cumulative total, 29 deaths cumulative total.

Davidson: 6 new cases, 2,215 cumulative total, 17 deaths cumulative total.

Huntersville: 30 new cases, 8,361 cumulative total, 66 deaths cumulative total.
