COVID-19 update May 17; new cases down 22.3%

Past 5 days down 22.3% from previous 31 days

May 17.  By Dave Yochum. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 688 new COVID-19 cases, and 28 deaths since Friday attributable to the coronavirus. One of them was in Huntersville.

The median of the past seven days of reported results (1,501 cases) statewide is 22.3 percent below the median of the past 31 days (1932 cases ). (See chart; data from Johns Hopkins.)

Hospitalizations

Statewide, hospitalizations were at 904, down from 926 in Friday’s NCDHHS report.

Testing

The statewide positive test rate was at 4.7 percent percent in today’s report. Mecklenburg County was at 4.9 percent.

Mecklenburg

256 new cases from Friday to today; 3 new deaths from Friday.

North Mecklenburg (change from Friday to today)

Cornelius: 2 new cases, 2,860 cumulative; 25 deaths total.

Davidson: 1 new case, 1,677 cumulative; 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 12 new cases, 5,980 cumulative; 51 deaths total.
