Memorial Day Weekend Weather Outlook

May 24. In a word, beautiful. Saturday, Sunday and Monday—temps in the 80s, with lots of sun. We’ll slog though Thursday and Friday, but the weekend (from three-plus days out) looks amazing. Lower humidity too. Check the forecast here.

Reserve a spot to grow your own flowers and vegetables

May 23. Gardening plots are available in the Cornelius Community Garden. Plots are 5 feet by 7 feet and the fee is $25 per season plus a refundable deposit of $25. If you have previously purchased a plot, now is the time to renew. Inquiries email: corneliuscommunitygarden@gmail.com

Groups recognized for community service

May 23. Three local organizations have been recognized by the Centralina Regional Council for their contributions to the community and surrounding areas. They are: — Lake Norman Economic Development Corporation for  Cross-Community Collaboration. — Neighborhood C.A.R.E. Center for  Improving Quality of Life — Senior Community Connections for  Aging In Action.

Town Halls closing for Memorial Day

May 20. All three North Meck towns, as well as Mecklenburg County, will close Monday May 30 in honor of Memorial Day. In Cornelius, waste pick-up will be delayed a day. In Davidson, waste services will operate on the regular garbage pick-up schedule.

Cornelius resident arrested in Iredell case

Thomas Patrick Strahan, a Cornelius resident, has been arrested by deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Warrant Squad and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he appeared before Magistrate R.
