The Old Fashioned BBQ & Candidate Forum, a unique opportunity to hear what our Town Board candidates have to say, will be Friday Oct. 11 at Town Hall.

All seven candidates are expected to attend. The five winners will decide on a wide range of matters that come before the board, ranging from setting the tax rate to passing on zoning changes for major projects as well as local ordinances.

Tickets are $9: Call us with Visa or MasterCard to RSVP at 704-895-1335. The price includes a full BBQ lunch, with non-meat options, and beverages. We will present a check to the Cain Center for the Arts at the conclusion of the event.

Rev. Keno Cannady, the new pastor of Union Bethel AME Church, will do the invocation.

American Legion Post 86 will present the colors. Mayor Woody Washam will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Sgt. Jonathan Sarver will sing the National Anthem. Shelley Little, music director at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, will accompany and lead everyone in a couple of patriotic songs.

Cornelius Today reporter Dave Vieser will moderate the forum.

The candidate forum will include questions from the audience as well as through the Cornelius Today Facebook page.

Doors will open at 11 a.m. for casual conversation with candidates. The BBQ buffet will open to the public at 11:30 am. The event ends at 1:15 pm sharp.

Our sponsors make the event possible: Aquesta Bank, Irvin Law and KS Audio.
