Newsmakers Breakfast with Cornelius Police Chief

A Q&A with Cornelius Police Chief David Baucom. Doors open at 7:15 am for networking. The buffet-style breakfast gets under way at 7:30 am. The Q&A begins at 8 am and concludes  at 9. Charlotte Symphony

7:30 pm | March 21. The Charlotte Symphony will return to Johnson C. Smith University for the first time in more than a decade to share the stage with the JCSU Concert Choir.  $15 general admission. Treasures of the Earth Pottery Show & Sale

9 am-4 pm Monday – Friday;  10 am – 2 pm Saturday | Through March 22. Potter exhibit with the works of local and regional artists plus new potters. The works on exhibit include sculpture and pottery in a wide variety of styles. Cleveland County Arts Council, 111 S. Washington St., Shelby.

Austin English

Thursday, March 23

Austin English, Cartoonist and Author

7 – 8:30 pm | March 23. Austin English is an artist and writer living in Brooklyn. As a cartoonist, he has published the books Gulag Casual and Meskin and Umezo. His artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States. Event is free and open to the public. No tickets required. Book signing will follow the reading. Legislative Town Hall

6 pm | March 23. State Sen. Natasha Marcus will hold her second town hall of the year at North County Regional Library, 16500 Holly Crest Lane, Huntersville, with an option to join virtually as well. Marcus will provide updates about my legislative priorities for the biennium, her committee work, bills moving through the NC General Assembly, and what issues are being debated in Raleigh.

Greg Delawie

Promoting Democracy and Rule of Law in the Balkans

7 – 8 pm | March 23. A senior diplomat with 30+ years of experience advocating US policy, in 2018 Greg Delawie retired from the Foreign Service as Ambassador to Kosovo.  As DCM (chief operating officer) at the embassy in Berlin, he led a team that rebuilt US-German relations. Since retiring from the Foreign Service, Delawie has taught diplomacy at George Mason University, consulted for the State Department, and promoted democratic change in Virginia. Davidson Community Players presents ‘Cat On a Hot Tin Roof ‘

Senior Dance

3:30 – 4:30 pm | Thursdays. This free class is designed for senior adults to improve flexibility, breath, balance, mobility, and fluidity by exploring various elements of ballet, jazz, modern, and improvisation. Participants can choose to take the class seated, standing, or a combination of both. Presented by Charlotte Ballet. Northern Regional Recreation Center, 18121 Old Statesville Rd., Cornelius.

Davidson College Chorale and Chamber Singers: Considering Matthew Shepard

7:30 – 9 pm | March 24. Twenty-five years have passed since Matthew Shepard, a young, gay student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, beaten and left to die in a field. Five days later, when Matt died, the world reacted, passing hate crime legislation at the state and federal level. The singers will sing Matthew’s story by performing Craig Hella Johnson’s oratorio, Considering Matthew Shepard. Passages from Matt’s personal journal, interviews and writings from his parents Judy and Dennis Shepard and newspaper reports, convey that light prevails over darkness and love over hate. This concert is free and open to the public; no tickets are required,

Cars, Carbs, & Coffee Car/Truck Show

9 am – noon | March 25. Cars that are registered will arrive and park at the Discovery Place parking deck. Music from Tim Cook band. Free coffee; food available from vendors. 105 Gilead Rd., Huntersville.

Grand opening

10 am- 1 pm | March 25. All are invited see the new Davidson Town Hall & Community Center, South Street.

Charlotte Ballet

Doors 12:30 pm, show 2 pm | March 25. Under the Lights, set to the music of the iconic Johnny Cash. Under the Lights is a tribute to the life and legacy of “The Man in Black” and his beloved June Carter Cash.  $40-$70. Cain Center For The Arts.

Community Service Day

9 am – noon | March 25. Learn about invasive vs. native species, and help remove invasive species from the historic site grounds. Please bring work gloves, hand spades, and pruners. Men That Cook

Keukenhoff Spring Market 

11 am – 4 pm | March 26. Spring market with artisans and makers, musicians and food trucks This market after Keukenhof, Holland, home to one of the largest tulip gardens where spring is their festival season. Lost Worlds Brewing, 19700-D One Norman Blvd., Cornelius.

STEAMfest 2023

Noon – 7 pm | March 26. STEAMfest provides youth of all ages with free opportunities to Imagine, Discover and Explore topics in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics through fun and engaging hands-on activities. Woodlawn School campus, 135 Woodlawn School Loop, Mooresville 28115.

House and Store Guided Tour

1:15 and 3 pm | Sundays. Step back in time to 1779 and explore the Hugh Torance House and Store. There is no fee, but donations are welcome. Cedar Grove and the Hugh Torance House and Store, 8231 Gilead Rd., Huntersville.

A work by Jacolby Satterwhite titled We Are In Hell. the artist has an exhibite in Davidson Jan. 17-March 26.

Artist exhibit

10 am – 5 pm Monday-Friday; noon -4pm weekends | Jan. 17-March 26. Jacolby Satterwhite’s Finding Home Again exhibit focuses on his digital animated series, Birds in Paradise, which features a mythological, queer universe inspired by pop culture, African folklore, ritual, video games and personal narratives. For the American artist, liberation, rebirth, and healing of the black, queer body is achieved through movement and sound. Van Every/Smith Galleries,  Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center, Davidson College.

Home Grown exhibit

Senior Bird Walk

9 am | Mondays, Jan. 9 – May 8. Avid birders provide a guided walk to identify birds throughout Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary and SEED Wildlife & Children’s Garden. The 3.5 acre open space is conducive to many local and migratory songbirds. The walk is slow paced with opportunities to rest on benches and be still for the birds.
