Weekender April 20-22: Ladies Night Out, Jazz Up in Huntersville, Davidson College Symphony Orchestra

Thursday, April 20

Davidson College Symphony Orchestra: Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4

7:30 PM – 9 pm | April 20. In this season finale concert, the DCSO performs Tchaikovsky’s monumental and virtuosic Symphony No. 4 and Beethoven’s jubilant homage to Baroque masters, The Consecration of the House Overture. Free and open to the public. Tickets are not required. Knobloch Campus Center DFPH-Duke Family Performance Hall, Davidson College.

Ladies Night Out

5-8 pm | April 20. Stroll through Birkdale Village to shop special retail deals, enter into giveaways and enjoy a night out.  Grab a passport at Concierge across from Julie’s Boutique to receive the special deals located at each store starting at 5 pm. Birkdale Village, Huntersville.

Senior Dance

3:30 – 4:30 pm | Thursdays. This free class is designed for senior adults to improve flexibility, breath, balance, mobility, and fluidity by exploring various elements of ballet, jazz, modern, and improvisation. Participants can choose to take the class seated, standing, or a combination of both. Presented by Charlotte Ballet. Northern Regional Recreation Center, 18121 Old Statesville Rd., Cornelius.

Live Under the Oaks Concert

6-8 pm | April 21. Jordan Minor Duo. No coolers are allowed. The Plaza, Birkdale Village, Huntersville.

Fundraiser

6-9 pm | April 21. The Davidson Rotary Club, Rotary Club of North Mecklenburg County and Lake Norman – Huntersville Rotary Club are hosting a dinner and a silent auction fundraiser. $100 per person; advance tickets required. NorthStone Country Club, Huntersville.

Saturday, April 22

Jazz Up

4-8 pm |April 22.4 – 6 pm features  Dapper Street Kid’s Jazzerific Show, featuring Ms. Essy and The Nifty’s; 6:15 – 8 pm Huntersville’s own local Jazz performer Holly Hopkins. Bring your lawn chair, purchase dinner and drinks from local food and beverage vendors onsite. Ice House stage, Veterans Park, downtown Huntersville.

Sippin Saturdays

Jetton Village Shoppes Block Party

11 am – 4 pm | April 22. Celebrate Earth Day and visit shops, see what’s new, activities and enter raffles. Drawn2Art Cornelius, 19825 N. Cove Rd. 

Earth Day Shred Event

10 am – noon | April 22.  Bring old documents, confidential files and no longer-needed important paperwork to be shred.  Paper, folders, hanging folders, paper clips, elastics, staples and metal clips can all be shredded. Items such as batteries, 3 ring binders, cardboard and any other non-recyclable items are not allowed. Sunday, April 23

Jazz Up

4-8 pm |April 23. Dear Soul Music Co. will present a variety of artists throughout the evening. Bring your lawn chair, purchase dinner and drinks from local food and beverage vendors onsite. Ice House stage, Veterans Park, downtown Huntersville.

Music at St. Alban’s: North Carolina Baroque Orchestra 

3-4 pm | April 23. A well-known ensemble performing “Captivating Concertos for Strings and Winds;” the group includes M@SA’s artistic director, Barbara Krumdieck, on baroque cello. Tickets $15-$20.  St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 301 Caldwell Ln., Davidson.

Brass Studio Recital

7:30 – 9 pm | April 23. Students from the studios of Andrew Fierova, Scott Hartman, and Alex Wilborn will perform various exciting works for brass. Free and open to the public. Tickets are not required. Sloan Music Center Tyler-Tallman Recital Hall, Davidson College.

House and Store Guided Tour

1:15 and 3 pm | Sundays. Step back in time to 1779 and explore the Hugh Torance House and Store. There is no fee, but donations are welcome. Cedar Grove and the Hugh Torance House and Store, 8231 Gilead Rd., Huntersville.
