Voting early, voting easy ’til 7:30 pm weekdays

Early voters Margaret and Blair Boggs at Cornelius Town Hall

Oct. 20. There was a line out the door at Cornelius Town Hall to vote this afternoon, but it was moving quickly at around 3 pm.

Cornelius residents Margaret and Blair Boggs said they waited about 30 minutes to vote this afternoon at Town Hall. Inside the Community Room there were more voting machines than usual, they said.

This afternoon was busier than other times earlier this week. Thirty-three polling places are open, including Hough High and the North County Library, until 7:30 pm.

They reopen tomorrow at 8 am. Early voting runs through Oct. 31.

COVID-19 safeguards

—Providing hand sanitizer and masks for voters and election workers who do not bring their own

—Providing gloves and face shields for election workers

—Erecting barriers between election workers and voters at check-in tables

—Providing single-use pens in counties that use hand-marked paper ballots, and a cotton swab or disposable stylus for voters who use ballot-marking devices

—Frequently cleaning surfaces and equipment in polling places and early voting sites

—Recruiting poll workers who are less vulnerable to the virus
