Town holds traffic safety drawing contest for youngsters

July 11. Put your young artist to work by entering the Heads Up Cornelius Drawing Contest.

Print the contest template and ask your child to illustrate what roadway safety means to them.

The winning artist will receive a $50 Parks & Rec voucher and the honor of flipping on the holiday lights at Light Up Cornelius.

Second and third place will each receive a $20 Parks & Rec voucher and a congratulatory shoutout.

The deadline to submit entries is Aug. 12.

Heads Up Cornelius

This  safety initiative is focused on reducing pedestrian- and cyclist-related collisions. Throughout 2022, this campaign will educate residents on proper crosswalk, bike lane, and roadway safety, in conjunction with continuing Town efforts to improve local signage and infrastructure.

Close calls happen too often, and it doesn’t have to be that way. Our streets are there for all of us to get around; motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. When you change the way you think about your daily commute, you ensure that it isn’t you or someone you love on the other end of that close call.

Calling young artists

Heads Up Cornelius needs your help to design the next official campaign graphic.

All you need to do is print off this sheet and illustrate what roadway safety means to you. This can be safety when you’re driving, walking, or riding your bike.

Feel free to create your design with any tools you’d like. These can be crayons, markers, paint, glue, paper.

Then, kindly ask an adult to either email a picture of your finished creation to townofcornelius@cornelius.org or send it to our Facebook messages. They can also drop your design off at Town Hall.

Be sure to write your name at the top of the page and include a good contact phone number or email address.
