Two new types of independent living structures for seniors as well as a community center are planned by Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for 9.7 of the acres the church owns adjacent to Autumn Care of Cornelius.

On July 13, the town’s Planning Board will review the independent living campus site design by developer RFDCDC of Yadkinville and PI Architects of Austin, which specializes in senior living communities.

The plan contemplates a 26,500 square-foot apartment building consisting of 80 one- and two-bedroom units plus lower-level parking. In addition, 24 single-story homes in duplex and quadplex formats, as well as a 6,000-square foot gathering place, are planned for the campus.

Autumn Care, a 102-bed nursing home that includes short-term rehabilitation and outpatient services, opened on Mt. Zion land leased to Autumn Corp.

The Planning Board meeting is at at 6:30 p.m. July 13 at the Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., and is open to the public. Town Commissioners will take up the matter Aug. 3.
