Town Board to consider agreement with CMS on use of Cornelius Elementary School Athletic Facilities

by Dave Vieser
At their Monday, May 18 meeting, Cornelius commissioners will consider a joint-use agreement with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) regarding the athletic field and facilities adjacent to the Cornelius Elementary School.
“As part of the 2013 voter-approved bond referendum, the town parks department is redeveloping and improving the existing outdoor athletic facilities at this school” said Parks Director Troy Fitzsimmons. “Some of the improvements include lighted athletic fields, a basketball court, restrooms, and a paved track. This agreement will formalize arrangements between the Town and CMS as well as establish operational responsibilities and authorization for town parks programming.”
Also on Monday, the commissioners will receive the proposed 2016 Cornelius budget from Town Manager Anthony Roberts. A public hearing on the spending plan is tentatively scheduled for Monday June 1.
