Town Board meets tonight

July 20. By Dave Vieser. Tonight’s Town Board meeting—the only one planned for July—will be in person according to Town Manager Andrew Grant. “As we’ve done before, we will practice social distancing and the only general public allowed at Town Hall will be one speaker at a time for public comments,” he said.

The meeting will also be streamed on the town’s web site www.cornelius.org.

The agenda includes a request to start a new sale/bidding process for the town’s former Public Works Building on Starcreek Drive, for which the town has received an offer of $620,000.

“We seek to start the upset bid process, which will allow other offers to be submitted to the Town for a 10 day period,” said Assistant Town Manager Tyler Beardsley.  “If no other offers are submitted, the original offer is accepted and the sale can proceed to closing.”

A previous attempt to sell the building had to be scrapped earlier this year after the high bidder pulled out of the deal, at which time the town also decided to perform an additional environmental analysis.

At Monday’s meeting the board is also expected to receive a report from the Lake Norman Economic Development Commission containing recommendations for the future development of the town west of I-77 near Sefton Park Road.

The meeting begins at 7 pm.
