Sept. 5. [Updated] Charlotte Water crews responded to a wastewater overflow near 16505 Birkdale Commons Parkway on Sunday. An estimated 16,250 gallons reached McDowell Creek in the Catawba River Watershed. The overflow was caused by a contractor damaging a manhole near Stonemason and Birkdale Commons.

NEW: Charlotte Water says crews have set up bypass pumping around the manhole and are still clearing the blockage caused by the damaged manhole.
