Rev. Lemings honored for 27 years at Grace Covenant

Feb. 21. By Dave Vieser. Rev. Farrell Lemings, who is retiring as lead pastor of Grace Covenant Church, was honored for his 27 years in the pulpit by Mayor Woody Washam at the Board of Commissioners meeting Monday night.

In presenting the official proclamation, Mayor Washam said, “Pastor Farrell has led with a heart of partnership, compassion, and generosity so that Grace Covenant would be a congregation for Cornelius not just in Cornelius. As he retires to enjoy more family time with his wife Sharlot and children Caleb and Grace, his legacy in leadership will continue throughout our community and through fellowship and partnership actions of Grace Covenant Church.”

The Mayor also proclaimed 2023 as the Year of Servant Leadership in Cornelius.

In other action, the commissioners:

—Approved the transfer of $3 million into the Smithville Town Infrastructure Capital Project Fund. This will provide for future investments in the Smithville area including infrastructure for streets, sidewalks, and stormwater projects. The $3 million in funds were offset by federal funds.

—Heard a presentation from Charlotte Medic explaining changes they plan to implement in their responses within Mecklenburg County. According to Fire Chief Guerry Barbee “Medic is revising their response protocols and changing response time requirements for their agency.” It is separate from dispatch center improvements being sought by the fire department.
