April 28. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt the daily lives of individuals living with abusive partners. The North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCCADV) has launched ‘A Night of Safety,’ a fund that will address the surging cost of providing shelter to domestic violence survivors caused by COVID19.
“We are hearing story after story of victims who are isolated at home in dangerous conditions, at a time when our intervention and response infrastructures are operating at drastically reduced capacity,” said Sherry Honeycutt Everett, legal and policy director.
The short-term goal is $25,000 to pay for Coronavirus-related costs which include purchasing hotel rooms and prepaid cell phones.
The requirements of social distancing and isolation mean the need is great:
—$150 for a 3-night hotel room with interior hallway
—$50 for one week of groceries
—$25 for a prepaid calling card
