New dates for festivals

Dragon Boat Festival coming back Oct. 17

June 8. Two major events have new dates: The Loch Norman Highland Games will take place at Historic Rural Hill Aug. 15-16, while the Asian Festival and Dragon Boat Race will be held Oct. 17 at Ramsey Creek Park.

They were originally planned for April and May, respectively, but the coronavirus forced them to reschedule.

Scottish Festival Aug. 15-16

The Loch Norman Highland Games features more than 50 family clans, Scottish dancing performances, and music showcasing the local Scottish heritage, while the Asian Festival brings awareness to the culture, traditions, and history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, including dragon boat races.

The events, as well as the Carolina Renaissance Festival and Christmas in Davidson are among the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 events this year, having been nominated by Cornelius-based Visit Lake Norman, the local convention and visitors bureau.

More festivals

The Carolina Renaissance Festival runs Oct. 3-Nov. 22, while Christmas in Davidson will be held on Dec. 3-5, 2020.

“With the uncertainty of the COVID-19 virus, it is more critical now than before to recognize the events that make Lake Norman a great destination. Most of the popular annual events and festivals have had to reschedule which provides future visitors something positive to look forward to once people resume traveling,” VLN said in a press release.
