Dan Hart getting ready to open Husky Paint downtown

Jan. 17. This morning many roads around Cornelius are icy-dicey, but passable, with a hard-pack of snow and here and there on roads like Westmoreland, West Catawba, Hwy. 21 and Jetton. I-77 was mostly cleared with little traffic at 7 am.

Black ice abounds a day after this winter’s first major storm passed through.

UPDATE 10 am. Publix was open by 7; Harris Teeter/Old Jetton opening at 9. Food Lion is open, also Starbuck’s on West Catawba and Waterbean are OPEN. QuikTrip, Cashion’s and Circle K are open.

Public Works is back out plowing and salting today.

Weather

It will be mostly sunny, with a high near 38 so there will be some melting today but there’s another deep freeze tonight: 18 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Weekend outlook

Saturday’s high will be 35.

About 2 inches of snow and frozen rain/sleet fell yesterday.

NCDOT: Slow down, give space

—If it looks wet, think ice

—Use extra caution on bridges & overpasses

—Give road crews space to safely work
