Memorial Day observations Monday at Cain Center

May 23. A Huntersville centenarian will be the keynote speaker at Memorial Day services next Monday at the Cain Center for the Arts.

World War II veteran Allen Q. Jones joined the US Army in June 1943, and was part of the 717th Tank Battalion, which was attached to the 28th Division in Europe. After returning home in 1945, he has since been involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as the Department of Pennsylvania State Commander from 1986-1987.

The Memorial Day program will take place inside the Cain Center for the Arts, starting at 10 am.

American Legion Post 86 Commander Randy Wally will lead a ceremony. There will also be patriotic music performed by theHough High School Singers and Cornelius Youth Orchestras, a Three-Volley Salute, and posting and retirement of colors. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Following the ceremony there will be light refreshments, courtesy of the Exchange Club of North Mecklenburg.
