UPDATE: McGuire Siren test at Police Station at 10:30 am

Oct. 15. UPDATED. Don’t be alarmed: A loud emergency siren will sound near Town Hall this morning at 10:30 am for about 3 minutes while citizens are lined up for the first day of Early Voting. It’s part of the McGuire Nuclear Station emergency warning system.

NEW 11:30 am: Upon seeing the lines of voters this morning, a Duke emergency planner cancelled the test.

Exactly one warning siren in Cornelius—there are 67 in total around the plant—didn’t work yesterday during testing between 11 am and 1 pm yesterday.

This particular siren sits right outside of the Cornelius Police Department, which is directly across Catawba Avenue from Town Hall.

No need for concern.
