Keep a light on

July 24. The Huntersville Police Department will not hold National Night Out on Aug. 4 out of concern for the safety of its officers and town residents.

“We are encouraging homeowners to leave a light on,”  Sgt. Brad Habenich says.

Huntersville made the decision in April to cancel summer events because of the coronavirus pandemic.

National Night Out is a community-police awareness-raising event in the United States.

Habenich noted the National Night Out  Association has recommended everyone move the date from August to the alternate date of October. Davidson canceled the event for 2020 and Cornelius has re-scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6.

“However, that is just prior to cold and flu season and with our COVID-19  numbers still going up, I’m not sure if we are going to do that,” he said.
