It looks like we’re going to Waste Pro

March 25. By Dave Vieser. A new solid waste collection contract for Cornelius will be considered at a special meeting of the Town Board this Friday March 27. The new contract will be with Waste Pro of Concord, and if approved, they will replace Republic Services on July 1.

The Town bid garbage services in January and received three bids.  The bidders were Republic Services, Waste Connection, and Waste Pro.

Waste Pro was the low bidder. The company provides a comprehensive customer service platform for both citizens and staff, according to Assistant Town Manager Tyler Beardsley.  All other services are equal to the existing Republic contract.

The Waste Pro rate is $16.20 per unit, which will allow the FY 21 solid waste collection budget to remain flat with no increase over the current FY 20 budget.  The new contract is for a 10-year term.

Residents will keep their existing waste receptacles; they’re owned by the town.

Collection schedules are still the same and recycling is still every other week and that will remain the same week, as well.

Waste Pro currently provides service to Davidson, Pineville, Mint Hill, Harrisburg as well as 14 other municipalities, mostly in the metro Charlotte area.

Also at Friday’s meeting, the commissioners are expected to adopt several resolutions for special service needs related to the coronavirus event.

The meeting, which will begin at 8:30 am, will be closed to the public for safety reasons but can be seen virtually on Zoom by accessing  https://us04web.zoom.us/j/852810011.
