March 17. While the only St. Patrick’s Day parades in Cornelius are the ones to local watering holes, pubs and bars are already busy in the middle of a work day. There are hundreds of people at Galway Hooker and Crown & Harp raising a glass to St. Patrick, a fifth-century Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. There are tents on-site at Galway Hooker, and the patio at Harp & Crown is packed. A word to the wise: Even mid-week police say St. Patrick’s Day generates as many drunk driving arrests as winter holidays. Indeed, police had stopped three cars on West Catawba between Kenton Place and One Norman Boulevard at around 2:30 pm.
