Feb. 14. Duke Energy and officials from county officials from 10 miles around McGuire Nuclear Station are asking for the public’s assistance to update emergency management strategies, specifically evacuation times. Nuclear plans, mandated by the federal government, include the evacuation of residents within a 10-mile emergency zone before a release of radiation occurs. Plans are tested regularly and drills are held and evaluated every two years by both the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Click here to complete the survey.
