Flying takes practice

Photos by Deborah Young

When someone walking in Jetton Park found a baby owl on the ground, volunteers from the Carolina Raptor Center assessed the owlet, found him to be OK and renested him with the help of long-time Peninsula residents Maggie and John Farrell.

This is the time of year when bird babies are taking their first flights and exploring the world around them.

The best practice is to leave the young bird alone, and keep your pets away. If you find an injured raptor, contact the Carolina Raptor Center at 704-875-6521.
