April 20. United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities are at half-staff in honor of former US Vice President Walter Frederick Mondale who passed away Monday at the age of 93. Mondale was the 42nd vice president, serving from 1977 to 1981 under President Jimmy Carter. The attorney general of Minnesota before becoming a US Senator, Mondale was also ambassador to Japan. Flags will be flown at half-staff until the interment.
