First day of school: Let’s all keep an eye out for kids

Aug. 29. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools welcomed back roughly 140,000 students and 18,000 employees today.

There are 925 buses on the road, not to mention tens of thousands of parents.

Keep an eye out for kids! Kathie Moquin (pictured) is. She’s the new crossing guard at Cornelius Elementary.

Extra caution

Watch for kids walking while looking at their phones. One study found that a full 20 percent of high school students cross the street while distracted.
