Bradley Middle School puts on their rendition of The Little Mermaid Jr. Friday night at the Hopewell High School Theater in Huntersville.  In the running mood?  The Somewhat Legendary 50K is Saturday in Davidson. Discovery Place Kids celebrates Mardi Gras on Tuesday.  Ash Wednesday services are held at many churches, with Mt. Zion UMC hosting a pancake dinner before their service.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time

Fifteenyear old Christopher has an extraordinary brain: He is exceptional at math but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. At seven minutes after midnight, Christopher stands beside his neighbor’s dead dog, Wellington, who has been speared with a garden fork. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington. Armour Street Theater.

Film Screening Q&A “BULL” by Annie Silverstein

Cannes Film Festival Award Winning Writer/Director Annie Silverstein visits Davidson College in person for Q&A after a screening of her feature length debut film, Bull – a story about a headstrong teenager from a rural neighborhood on the outskirts of Houston, who is destined to follow her mother to the state penitentiary, until she’s forced to work for her equally willful neighbor, Abe, an aging bullfighter struggling to keep a foothold in the rodeo circuit. 8 pm to 10 pm, Semans Lecture Hall, Davidson University.

 

Friday, Feb. 21

The Little Mermaid Jr.

Bradley Middle School Proudly Presents The Little Mermaid Jr. Feb. 21 at 7 pm and Feb. 22 at 3 pm or 7 pm. The Little Mermaid Souvenir table and Concession will be open before after each show. Following each performance, there will be a special meet and greet with the characters for 15 minutes. Hopewell High School Theater, Huntersville.

Hey You! An Afrostereophonic Journey

Brian Daye’s “HEY YOU!! An afrostereophonicjourney” is a multi-media performance exploring the misadventures  of an African-American man on a continuous quest for the truth – and shining some light, humor, honesty and history along the journey. 8 pm, Warehouse Performing Arts Center, Cornelius.

 

Saturday, Feb. 22

The Chronicles of Adam

Join Dontavius Williams as he  brilliantly portrays the story of Adam, an enslaved person in 19th Century Antebellum Carolina. Williams uses historical documents and primary sources to accurately recreate Adam’s life. 10 am to 2 pm, Historic Latta Plantation.

Dart 100K Challenge / Somewhat Legendary 50K

Have you ever gotten into a groove at a nice steady pace and felt like “I could run forever at this pace”? Now’s your chance to test that theory out. In the DART 100k Challenge, all you have to do is run a nice, easy 10k, once every hour, for 10 hours in a row. 8 am, 111 South Main in Davidson.

Carolina Bass Challenge

Carolina Bass Challenge fishing tournament returns to Lake Norman. Blythe Landing, Huntersville.

 

Sunday, Feb. 23

Music @ St. Albans – Kevin Jones and Topher Ruggiero

Kevin Jones, cellist will perform Sonatas for cello and pianist with pianist Topher Ruggiero. Concerts are at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Davidson at 3 pm. Come early for young artist performances. 

 

Tuesday, Feb. 25 

Mardi Gras – Discovery Place Kids

Let’s make masks and string beads as we celebrate Fat Tuesday. We’ll start our celebration at the Town Hall Stage with the story Dinosaur Mardi Gras by Dianne De Las Casas. After, venture over to I CAN Create to make festive decorations. 11:15 am.

Ash Wednesday at Mt. Zion UMC

Pancake Supper and Ash Wednesday service. Pancake Supper, 5:30 pm, Mt. Zion UMC Family Life Center. Ash Wednesday Service, 6:40 pm in the Sanctuary.
