Nov. 21. By Dave Vieser. At a relatively quiet Town Board meeting Nov. 20 and run by Mayor Pro Tem Dave Gilroy, Cornelius commissioners approved security improvements at Town Hall.

The project will consist of reconstructing the reception area, constructing a new wall at the top of the main stairwell, providing additional egress points, and technology upgrades to existing security systems.

Cinderella Partners Inc., based in Indian Trail, was the lowest bidder at $166,850.70.

The contract calls for the project to be completed by June 7, 2024, and the building will be open to the public during construction.

In other action, the commissioners:

—Approved changes to the town land development code which will require privately maintained roads and all driveways, offstreet parking and loading areas (including pavement markings and signage) and associated pedestrian and bicycle facilities to be maintained in perpetuity. Previously, the town code did not specifically require owners to maintain them. Single-family and duplex driveways are excluded from this requirement.

—Adopted a mayoral proclamation declaring Saturday Nov. 25 as Small Business Day in Cornelius, urging all citizens to shop at the many businesses which populate the town and the Lake Norman Region.
