July 28. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 2,683 new COVID-19 cases statewide, compared to fewer than 500 a day during late June/early July.

As the Delta variant digs in, the statewide positive test rate also increased, from less than 5 percent early this month to 10.8 percent in today’s report.

Hospitalizations, deaths

Hospitalizations rose by 60 today, to 1,091 statewide. The NCDHHS today also reported 16 new deaths.

Mecklenburg County

In Mecklenburg County, there were 313 new coronavirus cases, and two new COVID-related deaths.

North Mecklenburg (change from Tuesday to today)

Cornelius: 11 new cases, 2,991 cumulative; 26 deaths total.

Davidson: 6 new cases, 1,766 cumulative; 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 20 new cases 6,311 cumulative; 54 deaths total.
