COVID-19 update: New case count remains above 4,000 for a second day

Aug. 6. North Carolina on Friday reported another big daily increase in new COVID-19 cases statewide: 4,506 new cases, up from 4,331 new COVID-19 cases yesterday.

The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services says statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are at 1,715, roughly triple mid-July levels.

Positive testing statewide is at 10.6 percent, more than double the goal of 5 percent.

Deaths

There were 12 new deaths attributable to the coronavirus in today’s report, down from 24 yesterday.

Mecklenburg County

In Mecklenburg County, the NCDHHS reported 531 new coronavirus cases, but no new COVID-related deaths. (Total Mecklenburg deaths were revised downward by one.)

North Mecklenburg (change from Thursday to today)

Cornelius: 7 new cases, 3,094 cumulative; 26 deaths cumulative.

Davidson: 8 new cases, 1,821 cumulative; 15 deaths cumulative

Huntersville: 47 new cases 6,580 cumulative; 54 deaths cumulative
