COVID-19 update Jan. 25: Hospitalizations surpass 5,000 but new cases fall

Jan. 25. COVID-related hospitalizations statewide broke through the 5,000 mark in today’s coronavirus update from the NC Dept. of Health & Human Services. There are 5,055 North Carolinians hospitalized with the coronavirus, a record.

Deaths

There were 46 new COVID deaths reported by the NCDHHS today statewide.

New cases

There were 13,017 new cases in today’s report, a decline from daily increases earlier this month that were well over 30,000.

Positivity rate

The statewide positivity rate is 36.4 percent according to NCDHHS.

—In Mecklenburg, the positivity rate increased slightly 32.3 percent in today’s report. The 14-day trailing average was 32.1 percent yesterday.

There were 2,893 new COVID cases as well as four new deaths reported county-wide between yesterday and today.

North Mecklenburg (change from Monday)

• Cornelius: 36 new cases, 5,985 cumulative total, 32 deaths cumulative total.

• Davidson: 33 new cases, 3,572 cumulative total, 20 deaths cumulative total.

• Huntersville: 96 new cases, 13,599 cumulative total, 82 deaths cumulative total.
