Could Phase 3 begin Friday at 5 pm?

Sept. 29. The NC Dept. of Health and Human Services reported 889 new cases of COVID-19 statewide as well as 49 new related deaths today. New cases, of course, lead to hospitalizations, which rose by 53 statewide for a total of 950, according to the NCDHHS.

With Phase 2.5 reopening set to expire on Friday, the governor will be taking a close look at the COVID-19 dashboard. New cases were below 900 yesterday as well, down from more than 1,300 a day in the past month.

Phase 3 could mean that bars, nightclubs, movie theaters, indoor entertainment facilities and amusement parks reopen. Gov. Cooper and members of the Coronavirus Task Force will hold a press conference on the subject of the pandemic Wednesday at 2 pm.

Testing

Positive tests statewide jumped to 6 percent, up from 5.3 percent on Monday and 4.5 percent on Saturday.

NCDHHS officials have targeted 5 percent. The total number of tests is now in excess of 3 million.

Recoveries

The NCDHHS estimated 184,422 North Carolina patients have recovered from symptoms from COVID-19.

Mecklenburg

The NCDHHS reported 70 new cases in Mecklenburg County today, for a cumulative total o 28,844. The NCDHHS reported two new deaths related to COVID-19, having reported none since Saturday. The total now stands at 354.

Mecklenburg coronavirus tests are coming back positive at the rate of 4.2 percent, about level over the past week.

North Mecklenburg

Cornelius: 2 new cases, total 529. Total deaths remain at 16.

Davidson: 0 new cases, total 299. No new deaths since 9/25.

Huntersville: 3 new cases, total 979. No new deaths since 9/26.
