Commissioners to consider ‘bike plan consultant’ at Tuesday’s Town Board meeting

At their Tuesday Jan. 20 meeting, Cornelius commissioners will consider hiring Alta Planning and Design of Davidson to develop a comprehensive bicycle plan for the town. The proposed contract with Alta totals $45,000, with $31,500 to be paid by the state DOT. The meeting has been moved from Monday, Martin Luther King Day.

“Of the three firms which responded to our request for proposals, Alta has been identified as being the most qualified firm and is also included on DOT’s short list for Bicycle Plans” said town senior planner Jason Pauling. “In order to be competitive, local governments must have adopted plans that address parks, greenways and bikeways. By preparing and adopting a bike plan now, in coordination with the DOT, the Town will have all of the tools necessary to compete for grants and funding in the future.”

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the commissioners will consider expanding the town’s community garden program including an expenditure of up to $5900 in town funds for materials and supplies to help build additional community gardens.

The meeting begins at 7 pm, in Town Hall on Catawba Avenue.
