CMS update: Aiming for around May 15 for back to school
April 2. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is receiving questions from students and families regarding next steps for Remote Supplemental Learning. In a video chat to parents, CMS leaders answer those questions and provide updated information about instruction on this video.
The participants included: Dr. Matthew Hayes, deputy superintendent of academics; Brian Kingsley, chief academic officer; Kathy Elling, chief school performance officer; Dr. Frank Barnes, chief equity officer; Dr. Ann White, assistant superintendent of exceptional children programs; and Beth Thompson, assistant superintendent of academics.

Is the school year going to be extended?
Charles Jeter, CMS Executive Director of Government Affairs, Policy, and Board Services, responds:
“We simply don’t know. The NC House has a Select Committee on Education COVID response that is looking at many options, including extending the school year, or perhaps even starting next year early. My guess is we won’t have an answer until the beginning of May at the earliest.”
