May 26. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ graduation ceremonies will feature seniors picking up their diploma during drive-through ceremonies the day after the virtual graduation.
CMS said the drive-through celebrations on school campuses will be a memorable—and different—experience for students and families in spite of COVID-19.
As cars carrying students drive onto the school campus, they will be greeted by school staff who will wave them through a celebratory procession with music and balloons. Seniors, donning their caps and gowns, will have the opportunity to have a professional photographer take a picture while social distancing outside their car.
They will also be able to pick up a congratulatory yard sign and program. For the drive-through ceremonies on Saturday, June 13, students will be able to pick up diplomas on June 15.
The pre-recorded virtual graduation ceremonies will feature the playing of the Pomp and Circumstance March, as well as speeches by students, principals and distinguished guests.
Every graduate’s name will be called during the ceremonies, which will be held between June 9-13.
Students and families will be able to watch the ceremonies on the CMS YouTube channel and Facebook.
