Are government pay raises ‘tone deaf’ right now?

June 9. By Dave Yochum. Raises for government employees appear to be the order of the day as local governments review and approve budgets for the upcoming fiscal year. Annual budgets are being approved in June and officially commence July 1—in the midst of a historic pandemic. “The County is anticipating a sharp decline in […]

June 9. By Dave Yochum. Sufficient testing to match a “rapidly declining positivity rate” while maintaining social distancing are among the top measures that can be taken to safely open the economy and prevent a second wave of coronavirus infections, says Dr. Howard Forman, a professor at the Yale School of Medicine. “If the economy […]

Can we all get along? It’s time to ask how

By Kate Stevens. Continuing to have open dialogues among people with different perspectives on racial issues—and even being uncomfortable during the conversation—are ways to mend our community. “When it comes to the issues of race, issues of diversity, it’s not comfortable,” said N.C. Coronavirus cases increase county-wide, state-wide

June 5. By Dave Yochum. Mecklenburg County has had another triple-digit single-day increase in COVID-19 cases but the rate of increase is leveling off. The county added 215 new cases from Thursday, for a total of 5,057 coronavirus cases, the state Department of Health and Human Services reported Wednesday. The number is cumulative since mid-March. […]

Using Johns Hopkins University’s data, Cornelius Today compiled a chart of North Carolina’s new confirmed cases of COVID-19 per day from May 4 through June 3. While it appears that North Carolina’s numbers of contraction are on the rise, it is important to note that anomalies may occur in North Carolina’s data reporting. The state’s average number of new daily cases since May 4 is 630 and its median is 539. Due to the obvious outliers on May 20, May 22 and May 29, which tend to skew the average, the median is a safer tool in describing the overall trend since May 4; however, the past seven-day average and median are significantly higher, both at 909. This may indicate data-reporting flaws or an upward trend in new cases.

Mecklenburg has seen a total of 4,842 coronavirus cases, an increase of 172 from yesterday, according to NC Dept. of Health & Human […]

Maybe that explains why there’s no Stouffer’s Spinach Souffle in Cornelius. A Stouffer’s customer service representative said the classic is still being […]
