Carrigan Farms Opens for Strawberry Picking

An annual Lake Norman tradition of more than 50 years gets underway this weekend.

Strawberry picking returns beginning today at Carrigan Farms, marking the start of the spring season at one of the Charlotte area’s longest-running strawberry farms.

The pick-your-own fields are expected to remain open from mid-April through late May, depending on weather conditions. Visitors can harvest strawberries directly from the field or purchase pre-picked berries at the farm stand.

Pricing starts at $8 per person for a quart-sized container, with larger container options available. The farm provides containers, and reservations are not required. However, guests are encouraged to visit on weekdays to avoid heavier weekend crowds.

On weekends, a food truck will offer strawberry-themed items, including slushies and pound cake topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

Located about 30 minutes north in Mooresville, Carrigan Farms has grown strawberries since 1975. The seasonal opening also marks the beginning of the farm’s annual lineup of events, which includes open swimming at its rock quarry in late May, followed by apple and pumpkin picking and the Scarrigan Farms Haunted Trail in the fall.

Carrigan Farms is a fifth-generation family farm that has operated since 1902, offering agricultural activities, seasonal events and agritourism experiences to the Lake Norman region.
