By the numbers: Ada Jenkins

Jan. 26. COVID-19 stresses everyone, especially those who were already on the edge of economic stability. The Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson mission is to help those in poverty break the cycle and gain economic independence. The Center has become a resource hub for Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville and a well-respected model for community centers in the region.

Impact

Here’s a look at what the non-profit did during the first six months of their fiscal year ended Dec. 31.

—869 e-mails, calls, or texts seeking information about financial assistance or other family needs

—482 people have obtained groceries through the Loaves and Fishes food pantry

—75 families have received emergency financial assistance totaling more than $72,500

—105 new clients have entered the Economic Mobility program,

—59 people experiencing homelessness connected with critical services

—26 students participated in Camp LEARN Works, a two-week summer program of learning and fun

—46 students enrolled in LEARN Works after-school program and received backpacks with school supplies

—304 volunteers have helped tutor students, deep-clean the food pantry and classrooms,
