May 20. By Dave Vieser. Taxpayers will have the opportunity at tonight’s Town Board meeting to comment on the proposed 2025 budget.

Town Manager Andrew Grant’s spending plan totals $40.6 million for the next fiscal year which will begin July 1. If the budget is adopted, the town tax rate would remain steady, at 17.31 cents per $100 of assessed value.

For a home assessed at $500,000, that amounts to an annual town tax of approximately $865, which is about a third of a property owner’s tax bill. The remainder is comprised of Mecklenburg County taxes, which include Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, as well as other county services.

The proposed budget must be adopted by June 30, and would go into effect on July 1. Speakers will be allowed four minutes to deliver their comments. The meeting will take place at Town Hall on Catawba Avenue beginning at 6 pm. It will also be live streamed via the town website: www.Cornelius.org.

Another budget hearing is expected June 3.
