Bailey Road: Relief may be in sight

Aug. 26. What about the traffic volume on Bailey Road, where both Bailey Middle and Hough High are located?

Between buses, students driving to and from school and carpooling, not to mention a variety of residential developments including Bailey’s Glen, Bailey is a real challenge on school days.

The town has hired consulting firm Kimley Horn to develop improvement proposals.

Quotable

“Our staff has discussed draft recommendations from them,” said Wayne Herron, deputy town manager. “Many of them required coordination and approval by NCDOT and CMS, and we are now awaiting responses from both before presenting any findings to the Town Board and then the public.”

Herron said he anticipates findings will be announced in September.

Discussion

One Response to “Bailey Road: Relief may be in sight”

  1. Hoping that any improvements will include infrastructure and coordination w/ CMS to shift the walk/bike to school policies for Bailey. Many families live close and want their kiddos to use these modes, but policy prevents it.

With the great work that’s been put into nearby greenways/sidewalks connecting to neighborhoods, as well as the benefits walking/biking have for kids and for relieving vehicle congestion, it’s bizarre that walking and biking are not priorities. As Bailey inherits Davidson K-8 kids in coming years, there will be even more pressure in this direction from the large number of families who have walked and biked to school through elementary school.
