April is World Autism Month in NC

April 26. Gov. Cooper has proclaimed April as World Autism Month in North Carolina to raise awareness and recognize individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), their families and organizations working to support them.

Autism spectrum disorder is a neurological and developmental disorder that begins early in childhood and consists of a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication.

Aktion Club

The Aktion Club, which serves adults with special needs, meets on the fourth Friday of every month in Suite 201 at the Lake Norman Chamber. The Kiwanis Club of Lake Norman has sponsored the club since 2006.

BILL RUSSELL

Bill Russell, president of the Chamber, has served as club advisor since its inception. “It’s a real joy to see these young people get together each month, and also between meetings, to plan community projects, or participate in various social outings,” he said.
