Algae bloom in cove off Torrence Chapel

June 14. An active Harmful Algae Bloom (HAB) has been found in a cove off Torrence Chapel Road. People are advised to avoid the cove until the bloom is no longer present.

The algae bloom is cyanobacteria.

The bloom was observed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services in response to a report of bright green and bluish water with a surface scum in the cove just to the west of Norman Shores Drive.

A no swim advisory remained in effect Saturday and Sunday.

If you see a bloom, you can report it to NCDEQ at Algae.NC.gov.
